Automatic Colour Management

Ordinary plasma TV screens fade over time

- but this is no ordinary plasma screen.

When it comes to televisions that offer a truly cinematic experience, nothing beats a big plasma screen, but until now, one of the weaknesses of plasma technology has been the effect of aging over time. As the phosphor lining in each of the millions of minute light cells that make up a plasma screen slowly deteriorate, the crisp colours become tired and faded. As all plasma panels are sealed permanently under construction, it seemed impossible to check this decline.

No plasma screen beats our own BeoVision 4 and BeoVision 9 in terms of long-term picture quality, due to our new cutting-edge technology that ensures that your plasma screen stays picture perfect.

With our new Automatic Colour Management technology, unique to Bang & Olufsen, a robotic camera arm swings down at regular intervals to analyse the performance of the screen. The colour mix is automatically fine-tuned to ensure strong and consistent colour reproduction, even after thousands of hours of use. The patent pending technology – called Automatic Colour Management - ensures rich and natural colours throughout the lifespan of our plasma screens. With Automatic Colour Management, you can adjust the colour temperature of the plasma screen to compensate for the effects of aging that normally cause an increasingly yellow picture.
Upon activation, a short robot arm, secreted behind the upper part of the frame, tilts down over the screen. At the end of the arm is a camera eye, which films a test picture on the screen. The colour temperature in light and dark areas is then analyzed and adjusted to ensure consistent colour reproduction, even after thousands of hours of use. Automatic Colour Management is routinely activated after 120 hours of use, but can also be activated manually.

Already superior screens today, a few years down the line BeoVision 4 and BeoVision 9 will still be the only plasma TVs worth watching.

Quotes from our Senior R&D Manager Torben Dalgaard

"Bang & Olufsen has a long and proud tradition of adding a touch of magic to its products. With Automatic Colour Management, we have taken the bold step of integrating future picture quality improvement into the product itself, and presenting this revolutionary technology directly to the BeoVision 4 and BeoVision 9 users. This is something that has never been done before, and it clearly adds another level of excellence and ease of use to the product."

"With Automatic Colour Management, we have set a new standard for picture quality and convenience. Automatic Colour Management means that we offer you something that the competition simply cannot offer: a recurring colour quality service check carried out automatically in your own home."
