The benefits of having two phone lines

With BeoCom 5 you can have two separate lines in the same phone system. Whether you wish to keep private and work calls separate, or be able to have two calls simultaneously, BeoCom 5 suits the modern lifestyle.

BeoCom 5 is intended for use with its own dedicated base, BeoLine 2. This base, which includes a built-in 400-number Phonebook, can be connected to two separate lines on your network simultaneously, making it possible for the busy family to handle two external calls on the same phone network at the same time.

In fact, it is possible to have up to eight handsets in one system, where more handsets can be active at the same time. For example, it is possible to handle two external calls and one internal call simultaneously. Just imagine the situation where the father and son are occupying the external lines and the mother in the kitchen wants to use the kitchen handset to call the daughter in the basement play room to tell her that dinner is ready. This is easily done with BeoCom 5. You can call this total flexibility. An additional benefit is also that the internal calls are free of charge.

BeoCom 5 also supports internet telephony or Voice over IP (VoIP). This means that if your Internet service provider also offers telephone service, you can connect the dedicated BeoLine 2 base to a VoIP box which has a 2-wire interface. If you connect BeoLine 2 to both the internet and the PSTN phone line, you can get calls via the internet on one line while still having the security of a fixed second line, should the internet connection break down.

BeoCom 5 can be used as a two-line phone only when registered to the BeoLine 2 base. It is possible to use BeoCom 5 with previous BeoLine base models, as well as the earlier BeoCom 6000 base, but it will then only work as a one-line handset.
