Sophisticated power, elegant design

BeoLab 20’s powerful and refined performance comes from the active speaker design and the uncompromising engineering of its digital sound engine. The conical shape of the speaker embraces every nuance, clearly reflecting Bang & Olufsen’s eye for form and function.

BeoLab 20 offers Immaculate Wireless Sound for crystal clear, wireless bliss, giving you the freedom to decorate your room as you like – and place BeoLab 20 exactly where you want.

  • Putting the highs on a pedestal

The crowning glory of BeoLab 20 is the Acoustic Lens. Its 180-degree horizontal dispersion conveys smooth high-frequency sound evenly throughout the room.

The Acoustic Lens maximizes the area of optimum sound in front of the speaker, enabling the listener to move around more freely while still experiencing perfect sound. The technology also minimizes the effect of floor and ceiling reflections, reducing unwanted distortion, thereby improving the overall sound experience.

Discover the improved sense of space and realism that the Acoustic Lens brings to the soundscape – conveying every little detail and nuance in a perfectly balanced, natural manner.

  • Creating the perfect lows

Fitted inside BeoLab 20’s 18 litre enclosure, the woofer’s two, 160 Watt Class D amplifiers and generous 10” unit guarantee precise and powerful low frequencies.

To deliver ultra-high-intensity bass without risking woofer damage when playing at full volume, Bang & Olufsen’s Adaptive Bass Linearisation constantly monitors and adapts the lows. For maximum placement flexibility, the speaker can be optimised to its immediate surroundings via a manual position switch, activating Bang & Olufsen’s innovative room adaptation technology.

Calibrated to the human ear

BeoLab 20’s pitch perfect performance comes from the careful calibration of its digital engine, courtesy of Bang & Olufsen’s Tonmeister, Geoff Martin.

  • Listen and learn

At Bang & Olufsen, Tonmeister Geoff Martin cautiously tuned and tweaked every nuance of BeoLab 20. According to Geoff Martin, the secret to delivering its natural, refined sound, comes from listening – pure and simple:

“Rather than building a tuning based on a prediction, we experience it instead – by playing the loudspeaker in different rooms and different positions and creating some sort of accustomed behaviour in the real world.”

Stunning performance

The significant processing power of BeoLab 20’s digital audio engine is the key to its superior sound.

Digital technology has allowed our engineers to dramatically improve the speaker’s acoustic performance by meticulously tweaking each driver’s equalization. Every single parameter of sound has been analysed by Bang & Olufsen’s sound designers to provide the finest soundscape possible.

The result is a digital engine with vast amounts of processing power, intelligently utilizing every single watt to its fullest potential.

BeoLab 20 supports Immaculate Wireless Sound – Bang & Olufsen’s concept for crystal clear, wireless sound.

BeoLab 20 is based on WiSA technology operating in the uncongested part of the 5 GHz frequency band. It offers crystal clear wireless sound with unprecedented quality and robustness, and significantly reduces cable clutter – only a single power cord for each speaker is needed.

BeoLab 20 connects seamlessly to all Bang & Olufsen products with Immaculate Wireless Sound, and all other WiSA-compliant products.

Discover Immaculate Wireless Sound

BeoLab 20’s combined 640 watts come alive through its active speaker design, resulting in power output that goes far beyond mere wattage.

This is due to the greater potential for control and optimization that an active speaker design provides.

Active speakers are a Bang & Olufsen hallmark which allows us a high degree of design freedom, because the cabinet size can be reduced significantly compared to more conventional passive constructions. The acoustic power derived from such a small volume is simply stunning.

In an active speaker, each driver unit (i.e. woofer, tweeter) has its own dedicated amplifier and DSP channel, allowing us to optimise the tonal balance and reduce distortion in a very robust design. This is accomplished using ideal crossover networks and individualised corrective filtering, granting us vast amounts of control over the loudspeaker’s performance.

Form following function

BeoLab 20’s superior sound reflects the vision of its designer, Torsten Valeur.

  • Designed with sound in mind

From the iconic Acoustic Lens right down to the base of the conically shaped cabinet, BeoLab 20 seamlessly merges form and function.

Everything underlines its purpose. The cooling grill’s soft-touch lacquer calmly hints at its role. The Acoustic Lens’ pearl-blasted base gently contrasts the high-gloss aluminium of the lens itself – highlighting the unit’s importance in spreading great sound throughout the room.

As a final touch, the cleverly designed base of the cabinet lends a subtle, floating expression to the speaker.
