Bang & Olufsen has partnered with Mercedes-Benz once again to develop the BeoSound Viano sound system for the all-new Mercedes-Benz Viano Vision Pearl concept. The new system is the world’s first high-end sound system made for a vehicle within the van segment, and mirrors the Vision Pearl concept – for those who appreciate not only mobility and comfort, but also stylish and exceptional quality.

Unique acoustics

Bang & Olufsen’s team of expert sound engineers spent many hours fine-tuning the new BeoSound Viano sound system to match the Viano Vision Pearl concept. Featuring a large interior and flexible seating configuration, the challenge was to recreate the same highly detailed sound performance for every passenger within the cabin. Though the challenge was unique, the result is the same trademark Bang & Olufsen sound performance.

Setting the big stage

The new BeoSound Viano sound system features 18-speakers powered by 1,320 watts of ICEpower and Class-D amplification. Each of the 18 Neodynium magnet loudspeakers have a dedicated channel, and with a total harmonic distortion figure of below 0,1%, Bang & Olufsen's proprietary ICEpower amplifier technology is the perfect balance between high output power, low power consumption and ultra-compact design.

Bang & Olufsen’s patented True Image™ upmix algorithm is also at work behind the scenes. This advanced technology distributes stereo and 5.1 signals to the 18 channels to create a homogeneous sound stage and perfect surround sound experience throughout the cabin.

The new BeoSound Viano sound system also features Bang & Olufsen’s patented Acoustic Lens Technology (ALT) – two ALT lenses up front on the instrument panel and two on the rear C-pillar. The unique ALT technology disperses sound in a 180-degree horizontal plane to create a vivid sound stage, regardless of seating position.

Design and craftsmanship

Step inside the Viano Vision Pearl concept, and it's clear that the Viano sound system has been designed to complement the style, quality and exclusivity of the Viano Vision Pearl concept. Take the ALT lenses, for example, which subtly illuminate the cabin with white LED light when the system is activated.

Looking around, you’ll also appreciate the handcrafted workmanship of the 2mm-thick, solid aluminium grilles covering most of the loudspeakers. These exclusive grilles feature a new hole pattern developed exclusively for the Viano Vision Pearl concept and two distinct designs that reflect the concept’s differentiated interior: curves and organic elements at the front and squares and straight elements in the rear. The grilles also feature new 'longline surface' finishing, where the surfaces are treated with oil before being brushed with sandpaper to create an exclusive matt look.

Bang & Olufsen's expertise with aluminium continues throughout the cabin. Perhaps the most impressive example is the matching illuminated aluminium border, which wraps around the cabin to bring together the BeoSound Viano sound system with the rest of the interior.

Expanding the reach of high-end in-car audio

With the birth of the BeoSound Viano sound system, Bang & Olufsen and Mercedes-Benz are bringing the breathtaking sound of Bang & Olufsen to an entirely new audience. They are also proving once again that high-end home audio is equally suited to an in-car environment…or should that be ‘in-van’ environment.
