BeoLab 9 review

On approach the small and discrete cabinet did not scream power at me but I have long learnt never to underestimate Bang and Olufsen loudspeakers due to size... after all size is not absolutely everything, performance is what matters! The fantastically designed loudspeakers are like two emperor penguins, quietly staring at me. They are not quiet for long as I promptly fire them up.

I start with my usual testers, Prodigy, then Mozart followed closely by The Verve, finishing with Jay-Z, the last is admittedly not to everyone's taste but do not judge until you have tried it. I run through, Firestarter, then the Requiem, then Bittersweet Symphony and the entire Black Album and The Blueprint. Every track sounds simply divine. The base is excellent, the mid-range and the treble, helped with the implementation of Bang and Olufsen's patented acoustic lens technology, are magnificent. What strikes me most about the way the loudspeakers perform is that they manage to transform my simple front room into a concert hall, into an auditorium, into the early nineties and my adolescence, it is an exciting and profound experience and I love it. The BeoLab 9 create a very real level of intimacy between listener and loudspeaker, one that I felt was lacking in its predecessor, the BeoLab 1. Furthermore, with their relatively small size they sit nicely in my home.

Overall, for a person who is generally critical and hard to please, I am overwhelmed at the performance. The BeoLab 9s continue to dispel the myth that Bang and Olufsen loudspeakers are all style and no substance... if I am biased and not to be believed dear reader, I will direct you to HI FI World, who also gives a stunning report on the loudspeakers. Try them, then buy them, they are that good.

I am here to tell you that the BeoVision 8 is a little gem. I loved the size immediately; it is so petite, especially when compared to its counter part the BeoVision 6. It is a slimmed down television and benefits from this, easily complimenting any room, without being overstated. The picture quality is brilliant, sharp and precise and a pleasure to look at. The sound is excellent despite the small speakers and does not work hard to make any DVD sound extraordinary. This television is awesome in my bedroom, I sincerely implore you to come to the store and be happily surprised by this tiny wonder.
