One of the coolest shops in town

Bang & Olufsen is helping to make Edinburgh one of the coolest places in the country to shop.

The Danish audiovisual brand has been voted among the UK’s coolest brands in a consumer survey by the organisation ‘Superbrands’.

Bang & Olufsen came fourth in the final standings, which began as a long list of 5,500 brands, but was the most prominent ‘High Street’ retailer in the list ahead of firms like Apple, Prada, Rolex and Agent Provocateur.

The lofty standing in the Consumer Premier League has been aided by a series of stunning new product releases by Bang & Olufsen, including the top-of-the-range plasma-screen BeoVision 9 and ‘lighthouse-inspired’ BeoLab 9 loudspeakers.

Coolbrands Council Chairman Stephen Cheliotis, who sat on the judging panel alongside the likes of DJ Trevor Nelson and designer Ben di Lisi, said: "Cool is not an easily definable formula – if it were every brand would be trying to harness and replicate that formula. It is elusive, but you know it when you see it."

"You could argue that the list is split into two categories: things that are cool by view of their necessity or prevalence in life, or the other things you really want but may never be able to get, like a Ferrari or Bang & Olufsen."

Chairman Cheliotis clearly has not visited Bang & Olufsen recently! Despite being one of the UK’s most sought after brands, Bang & Olufsen telephones, portable music systems and loudspeakers are well within reach, starting at just a few hundred pounds.
