A Bang & Olufsen TV sees things from
a unique perspective: Yours!
Bang & Olufsen produces televisions that adapt automatically to any environment.
For decades, our customers have been able to engage their senses with the sights and sounds of products that are all about the listening and viewing experience. We produced our first TV 55 years ago, and this year we celebrate the 40th anniversary of our first colour TV. In the meantime, much has changed, but for us the challenge of superior television design remains more than a matter of technology. We would like to present our customers with real solutions, with technologies that make sense and make a difference to them in their daily lives.
Seeing things your way

To this end, Bang & Olufsen has developed the Viewing Comfort concept that focuses on the interface between the screen and the user, and between the screen and the room. With this concept and the technologies behind it, we aim to make products that adapt to the requirements of the user. |
| The contrast screen The contrast screen is made of hardened, dark-tinted glass, which offers several different benefits: It lowers the black level, producing deeper colours; it adds a sense of depth to the picture; and it reduces the amount of light coming in, resulting in richer colours. The anti-reflection coating of the contrast screen The anti-reflection coating improves all forms of television viewing. Together with the contrast screen, it reduces reflections from the screen to 0.5 % of the surrounding light. By way of comparison, uncoated glass reflects 5.3 % of the light. Glare screen technology The use of a smooth glare screen on our LCD televisions improves contrast even further by reducing the amount of ambient light that the screen reflects directly towards the user. For instance, light from a window off to one side will be reflected to the other side of the room instead of back towards the viewing position. Automatic Picture Control This feature automatically controls and adjusts the picture (brightness, colour, contrast, sharpness and white point) when the light conditions change in the viewing room. These changes are measured by a sensor on the television, which immediately adjusts the picture if for instance sunlight suddenly floods the room. |

Testing, testing
Our commitment to producing unique experiences does not stop with the products and technologies built into them. To make sure our products meet the needs of the user, we give high priority to testing them in surroundings similar to an ordinary living room. Our video products are all tested in the so-called media room, where our specialists measure how different light conditions affect television viewing. We also use a panel of lay people to evaluate all TV concepts. This viewing panel consists of a number of non-technical persons who are called on to give their evaluation of specific picture parameters such as sharpness, black level, true colours etc. To be part of the panel, you need a sharp set of eyes, and all members must undergo a series of extensive eye tests at the Danish National Hospital, which are to be verified by the Department of Aviation Medicine, so their vision is as good as any pilot's. Feedback from the panel members is used to improve television products, and blind testing is carried out as much as possible to remove any prejudices regarding brand or model.
Experience it
All in all, we are willing to go to great lengths to comprehend the interaction that goes on in people's homes between those who live there and the technologies that they live with. We believe that this commitment is so strong that the products we produce are more about humans than about technological fads and trends, which is why we always ask people to our stores to see and listen for themselves. We dare to make a difference, and dare you to come on in and experience it.
