TRANSFORM DETAILS INTO DESIRABILITY
The evolution of an icon
It was designed driven by the idea to merge some of the great sound characteristics from the Bang & Olufsen speaker range with unprecedented comfort. The super flexible earphone that came out of this design exercise resulted in a product that is iconic in appearance and has inspired a lot of earphone designers since it’s launch.
While the original Earset still sounds amazing and has a fit that will satisfy even the most demanding customers, it is now time to revisit the icon to bring it up-to-date on a more technical matter. Since the 90ies the world of music consumption has become wireless and now, so has Earset. For this relaunch, the classic has a totally new digital platform making it able to communicate wirelessly with your phone and letting you control vital features via the in-line remote.
The original lines for the design were drawn in the 1990s by Anders Hermansen, with a strong focus on the basic shape architecture of the arm, piston and earhook. The design is industrial in essence, originating in the needs of a product that should adapt to your ear. It’s an example of how expert engineering and design goes hand in hand to an object that is as beautiful as it is useful.
A solid sound engineering concept
Finely treated aluminum and soft rubber parts allow for effortless adjustment and flexibility, without compromising comfort. The precise, mechanical friction in the piston and the use of hex screws underline the mechanical simplicity inherent in Earset. Aluminium surfaces emphasize the exclusive look of the product, while the natural qualities of the component ensure strength and scratch resistance.

and a sense of your surroundings
The dynamic full tone loudspeakers mounted on a telescopic bar are constructed according to the open loudspeaker principle that lets through some environmental sounds. That way you will not be entirely cut off from the world when enjoying the pure sound of the Earphones.
This is also what makes it attractive to professional musicians to use as in-ear monitors. You can sense the world around, like traffic if you’re biking to work through a busy city, but also the Cello next to you, if you’re a string player in a philharmonic orchestra. With the open sound architecture of Earset, you’re a lot more in touch with your surroundings than with other earphone types.
A solid sound engineering concept
Bang & Olufsen's Executive Sound Engineer, Knud-Erik Lauridsen, was also responsible for tuning the original Earset in the late 90's. Here’s his explanation of the success of Earset thought all these years and why it’s archetypical design is just as relevant today as it was back then: “The challenges we faced with the acoustics 17 years ago are the same challenges we face today – ergonomics. For great sound performance you’ve got to look closely at the ergonomics involved. Moving away from the deeper in-ear fit that was mainly being used at that time, we wanted to adapt the earphone closer to the shape of the ear, so the ear tip would sit in the concha of the ear with the housing supported by an earhook.”Learn More

made to last
In the spirit of the Bang & Olufsen legacy, Earset is crafted with premium materials made to last. All the materials are meticulously chosen for their functional qualities as well as their appearance.
Anodized aluminium inherits qualities that make it possible to procure more depth in the colours and finish of surfaces during production. The aluminium has a diamond cut-edge and a radially polished surface to catch and reflect light.Next
Aluminum for frictionless movement
To ensure alignment in design and quality, anodized aluminium has been used to achieve fluid and frictionless movement of the telescopic piston. The engineering process requires surgical precision, and gives the piston a hydraulic feeling.Next
Soft rubber sections for secure fit
The iconic earhook is made of brushed aluminium, with sections of soft rubber, to ensure a comfortable and secure fit behind the ear. A hex screw attaches the piston to the earhook, underlining the mechanical ideals that once inspired the original design.Next
A solid housing
The composite polymer housing of the earphones, features an anodized aluminium plate with a laser etched version of the B&O logo.Next
While the original Earset was wired to your phone via a standard jack connector, the re-engineered Earset features a state-of-the art wireless bluetooth platform, leaving you freedom to move around without constraints. The extra benefit of a more sophisticated digital product is even better sound than the original. Digital equalizers inside the Bluetooth chipset are used to fine tune the final sound performance, making sure the last part of the sound waves’ journey is as perfect as possible.
Wireless Bang & Olufsen Signature Sound
Earset is made for music, with tuning mastered by Bang & Olufsen’s acclaimed sound engineers for a rich and powerful sound experience. The design of the ear bud assures a comfortable fit, while allowing ambient sounds to be heard without affecting the quality of sound.
Keep on going with up to 5 hours of battery life
With 5 hours of effective battery life, the Earset is a great companion for your daily activities. The USB-C charging solution ensures quick and hassle-free charging, so that the earphones are always available for your next adventure.
In control, on the move
The in-line anodized aluminium remote with three buttons and built-in microphone lets you control your music, take calls, and activate Siri or Google Assistant – all without taking your smartphone out of your pocket.Learn More
Crafted for comfort
with a flexible
One size fits all. Just like all humans are different, all human ears are different too. Both in the outer contours of the ear and the inner shapes are uniquely different for each of us. This leaves a solid design challenge when designing One-size-fits-all solutions that is required for mass production. While some earphones accommodate for the difference in the inner ear by providing different ear tips, the construction of Earset has a different starting point.
Earset allows the earphone to fit comfortably just inside the inner ear without blocking it. Apart from a more comfortable feel, this style also allows ambient sounds to be heard without affecting the quality of sound – while still being aware of surroundings.
The unique construction of the arm, the piston and earhook provide this unprecedented flexibility allowing Earset to adapt to the shape of your ear.Learn More
