Home Theatre FAQ
Soundbars
A soundbar is an all-in-one audio device for those searching for a compact, easy-to-use product with the latest technologies providing premium sound quality. It is typically placed on the wall, but you have other placement options, such as on a stand or shelf or as part of a TV as well. This all-in-one device holds multiple speaker units providing a unique multi-channel experience or simulating a sound experience that is as close to a full surround sound system as possible. In many cases, flatscreen TVs do not have enough space to include the speakers required for an excellent sound performance. Therefore, many will choose a soundbar to enhance the sound experience from the TV. A soundbar can also be used as an independent, stand-alone sound provider, offering exceptional audio performance when streaming or connecting audio devices.
With automatic optimisation of the speaker performance to the room, you now have the freedom to place your soundbar as you like. Optimisation of sound to the room was introduced by Bang & Olufsen in 2003 with the launch of Beolab 5, Bang & Olufsen's first fully digital loudspeaker. The sound performance is optimised for the room and your preferred listening locations, so the soundbar and speaker placement becomes less critical. In addition, the soundbar placement may vary depending on how you are using it. Most soundbars are designed for wall placement. But Bang & Olufsen soundbars have additional placement options. Beovision Contour is a TV that integrates a soundbar (Beosound Stage), which can be placed on the wall, freestanding in the room or mounted on the wall. When you have a Beosound Stage as a stand-alone soundbar, you have two placement options; horizontally on a shelf or mounted on the wall. Today, most Bang & Olufsen speakers have room adaptation in some form – some with a physical position switch and others with a software setting in the Bang & Olufsen app. So almost any place is a good place.
Home Theatre
A Home Cinema is a term that typically refers to a room or a dedicated place in your home: It is where you place your TV and speaker setup and get an all-enveloping cinematic-like sound and picture experience.
A soundbar is a compact, all-in-one audio device with multiple driver units that provide a superior sound experience, typically involving a TV. All soundbars have several treble, midrange and bass drivers, each dedicated to specific purposes, providing high-quality performance that can be hard to integrate into our slim TV designs today.
With Beosound Theatre, you have a soundbar that genuinely caters to the future of home cinema experiences. It delivers a cinematic experience like big home cinema setups – but without the tech clutter of black box speakers, connectivity boxes and messy cable management.
Beosound Theatre is a single soundbar that delivers the immersive surround sound, speech clarity and serious bass previously only possible with multi-speaker setups. It is one well-crafted piece that allows any TV screen to be connected and with all cables cleverly hidden away.
A Home Theatre provides a viewing and listening system typically set up in a dedicated room in a private home. It typically involves a large TV screen and multiple loudspeakers placed in selected locations around the room; front speakers, centre speakers, side speakers, rear speakers, ceiling speakers and subwoofers. With this system, you aim to get as close to your film experience in a movie theatre as possible.
The sound engineer of a film uses different speakers to set the atmosphere of the film with music and different effects. Every speaker in the setup has a specific task. If you dedicate and develop speakers for specific purposes, you can achieve an experience that delivers what the film director intended for you – even in your own home.
When you combine the task of all the connected speakers, you feel almost involved in the total experience – a powerful viewing and listening experience. You will hear every detail from every angle; you're not just watching a movie. You're immersed in it.
