When Jacob Jensen designed the Beogram 4000 Series turntable in 1972, he was looking to the future of audio design. His aim was to completely rethink the turntable to achieve a better-performing product that would stand the test of time. ‘No-one should care about how bridges are built – the point is to find out how to get to the other side in the best possible way,’ he explained.
This radical spirit has always been at the core of Bang & Olufsen’s DNA – as has our commitment to longevity; the original Beogram 4002 was future-proofed by designing space into the product architecture for future technological upgrades that hadn’t even been invented yet.
Consisting of the recreated version of the Beogram 4000c turntable – this time individually customised by hand in pearl-blasted titanium tone aluminium and solid walnut wood – combined with matching, state of the art Beolab 18 stereo speakers and a Beoremote Halo remote control, this fully integrated music system embraces the brilliance of Jacob Jensen’s 1972 vision and reimagines it for 2022’s discerning music lovers.
The system comes in a solid walnut presentation box, which doubles as a turntable stand, Halo remote charging station and wireless connectivity hub. This enables content to be streamed when the turntable isn’t in use – a perfect example of Bang & Olufsen’s belief that classic design should live together with contemporary innovation.
The walnut box can also be used as an elegant storage cabinet for records – and, to help owners with their collection, we’ve hand-picked four albums released in 1972 – a pivotal year for music in more ways than one –that have become all-time classics. It only feels right that they come housed within another classic.
The walnut box can also be used as an elegant storage cabinet for records – and, to help owners with their collection, we’ve hand-picked four classic albums released in 1972 – a pivotal year for music – that are included with every system: David Bowie’s The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars; Paul Simon’s eponymous debut; Eat a Peach by The Allman Brothers Band and Carly Simon’s No Secrets.
One of the most-awarded industrial design products in the world, the Beogram 4000 helped shape the aesthetic of modern audio design..
Famously ‘dance-proof’, the turntable’s chassis is suspended on leaf springs to provide built-in ‘shock absorbers’ that protect the needle and arm from external vibrations – so the record will never miss a beat. The fact that the arms move inwards in a straight line rather than diagonally, as on conventional turntables, means that the needle sits at the same angle in the groove as when the vinyl was cut, for a more faithful sound reproduction.
A 50-year-old design classic, seamlessly connected to contemporary music technology for a truly integrated sound system, the Beosound 72-22 is the epitome of Bang & Olufsen’s philosophy: the perfect marriage of design and craft working to provide the best experience for current and future generations of music lovers.
