Conversations in sound

Behind every installation

How Bang & Olufsen secures quality sound in the world’s most demanding projects

In luxury hospitality, high-end retail and exclusive private mobility, expectations do not stop at beautiful products. They extend to flawless execution, long-term reliability and intelligent support. Behind every Bang & Olufsen professional installation stands the Technical Solutions Team (TST), a global function translating design ambition into technically robust realities.

We spoke with Morten Hemmingsen, Technical Project Manager and long-standing member of the team, about what that support truly means for installers and specifiers.

More than products

“When professional customers choose Bang & Olufsen, it’s a statement,” Morten says. They expect premium craftsmanship and sound, but also longevity. “They see it as a long-term investment.” And that changes expectations. “Because they are paying a premium, they expect premium service,” he explains. “Structured planning. Responsiveness. And always trying to be one step ahead.”

In five-star environments, technical downtime is not just inconvenient, it is costly. “Having a room that is not fully functional because of AV issues can directly impact revenues,” Morten notes.

Support is built into our partnership. While others rely on service contracts, we deliver ongoing, expert care as part of every solution. For installers and operators, that’s peace of mind-excellence behind the scenes as well as up front.

From brief to handover

The journey begins when the B2B sales team receives drawings and a brief. “It can be background music in a restaurant or full in-room entertainment systems in hotels,” Morten explains. TST then translates intent into a concrete system proposal.

Alignment is key. “We can put Beolab 50s everywhere, but probably that’s not the ideal solution,” he says with a smile. The team develops tiered concepts, from entry level to what he calls “the Rolls Royce of sound”, allowing performance and investment to be balanced.

Proposals include placement diagrams and system schematics to visualise integration. Once direction is confirmed, precision takes over: mounting heights, brackets, power and network positioning. “Nobody wants to see cables,” Morten says. Clean installations are part of the luxury promise. The goal is simple: visible products, invisible infrastructure.

On larger projects, TST supports the first installations on site to optimise configuration before scaling across rooms or zones. On others, experienced integrators execute independently, supported remotely where needed.

Reliability at scale

One of the most demanding projects Morten recalls is the Grand Lisboa Hotel in Macau, with 450 televisions across 50 floors, each connected to multiple speakers. “It was the biggest professional project we had secured at the time,” he says. Early software challenges required manual updates on every unit (20 to 25 minutes per TV) with progress tracked room by room.

The lesson was clear: scalability matters. Today, tools like our Product Health Center, a platform to monotorize installed products, have transformed large-scale support. Remote log access, diagnostics and software deployment allow many issues to be handled without site visits. “You can actually see the live status of each connected product,” Morten explains. Interventions are faster, more targeted and far less disruptive. Support has evolved, becoming as sophisticated as the systems it protects.

Looking Ahead

For Morten, he sees a growing demand for not only products of the highest standard, but service and installation to match. “When the quality of the guest’s experience is the only thing that truly matters, you just want the best of the best,” he says.

He sees value moving beyound the products itself and into connected ecosystems, centralised monitoring and proactive service models that resolve issues before guests ever notice them. “Our product quality is second to none,” Morten reflects. “But in professional environments, quality must be matched by reliability and support.”

For installers and specifiers, that is the promise: not just iconic sound and design, but a technical partner committed from first drawing to long after handover.
